Recovery of USS Shenzhou NCC-1227
USS Shenzhou was abandoned on stardate 1207.3 after being disabled in an engagement with a Klingon Sarcophagus-type vessel acting as the flagship of a larger Klingon fleet engaging Starfleet forces in what will eventually be called the Battle of the Binary Stars.
ADM Janeway ordered an archeological survey and recovery of the Shenzhou. Narragansett transited Romulan Star Empire space and rendezvoused with USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E and USS Voyager NCC-74656 at Gamma Hydrae to form Archeology Fleet One (hereafter referred to as AF1). FCAPT Knotts transferred his flag to Enterprise along with CAPT Anzaldi to act as Chief of Astrometrics and Archeology. LCDR Brunelle was transferred to Voyager and appointed executive officer under CAPT Tuvok as an acting commander. CMDR Taylor was made commanding officer of Narragansett as acting captain, with me being made executive officer as acting commander. Various additional crew transfers were made to accommodate each ship’s mission role.
AF1 proceeded to the Shenzhou’s last known location, where an intact and seemingly operational ship was found. Initial attempts to access Shenzhou resulted in a rapid deterioration of the situation, including FCAPT Knotts being kidnapped by USS Discovery NCC-1031 and various ill-advised (and possibly illegal) attempts to subdue our Klingon passengers. At this time, it was revealed to us that we were in a simulation, and that the real mission would be less forgiving.
It was at this time that ADM Janeway briefed us on the true nature of Shenzhou as an intelligence gathering platform, and that it needed to be recovered. AF1 also underwent weapons refit before we once again were underway.
Upon contacting Shenzhou this time, FCAPT Knotts was again taken by Discovery, however Enterprise laid-in pursuit. Both ships eventually returned having been assimilated by the Borg. Though we had all been seemingly assimilated, timely intervention by Q negated that outcome.
Q explained that the Borg being connected to the spore drive was causing space-time to unravel. AF1 had been continuously trying (and failing) to stop this, and the continued intervention of Q had allowed us to try (unknowingly) again and again. However, the damage to space-time was having deleterious effects on the powers Q Continuum, and that this would be our last attempt. Q sent us back with our memories intact and was rendered human.
Having had time reset this last time, we endeavored again to correct the issue.
AF1 was able to trigger the encounter with Discovery, and FCAPT Knotts went with her again (with Enterprise following again). We were able to board Shenzhou and I was able to activate her automated systems with ADM Janeway’s access codes. It was at this time that CAPT Saru was displaced in time and appeared on the Shenzhou’s bridge. The breakdown in space-time was accelerating, and his time was experiencing the effects as well. He remained onboard to act as my XO.
AF1 was able to rendezvous with Discovery and Enterprise for a final assault on the Borg. With the help of Shenzhou’s vastly superior weapons, AF1 was able to destroy the Borg Command Ship and correct the damage to the space-time continuum.
I would like to put forth TJ Feldman, James Clauson, & Richard Bump for commendations based on their exemplary performance during this mission. As well, I would like it entered in to the record that CMDR Taylor was an excellent CO, and it was an honor to serve under him. I hope I am given that opportunity again.
