The crew of the USS Narragansett met at headquarters on October 14th at 1300 local time, Captain Knotts presiding. The Captain gave a status of the Region report, mentioning that he has presented the other regional chapters the opportunity to have a space at RI ComicCon on November 10-12th in Providence. The RC is also proposing a Christmas Party.
Captain Knotts reported our current SFI crew strength at 37 members (plus 2 local members).
Ensign Chapasko reported on the upcoming Trunk-or-Treat event at CCRI on October 29th. Crew are to report at 1630 preferably in uniform.
Commander Anzaldi reported that he will be checking in with the booth during his breaks at ComicCon. He announced some decisions around rank pips, namely that Officers will use TNG era rank pips, enlisted will use Navy rank insignia, and cadets will use Coast Guard rank insignia.
Commander Anzaldi reported that the USS Narragansett is currently docked at Deep Space 9. We will be embarking on a mission to explore 4 non-federation planets and traveling at high warp (with some grumbling for the Chief Engineer) in order for the ship to arrive at Earth on Christmas Eve. On New Years Day we will be embarking on a joint mission of exploration with the Klingons.
Commander Anzaldi also tasked Lieutenant Commander J. Taylor with an overhaul of the ships computer. Taylor reported that the overhaul would be complete in short order.
Commander Anzaldi tasked Lieutenant Commander D. Taylor with compiling a report comparing the tribble we have in “stasis” with Dr. Bashir’s findings on the tribbles DS9 encountered.

After the meeting the crew carved pumpkins. A good time was had by all.
The crew of the USS Narragansett made a good showing at the Region 15 Summit on September 23rd in North Easton, Mass. Captain Knotts gave a rousing speech about recruitment, encouraged everyone to try our methods and offered the assistance of the USS Narragansett in recruitment efforts.
The meeting was followed by a vey cool Star Trek and Sci-Fi auction where items that members donated to the region were auctioned to the highest bidder. A good time was had by all!
Many members of the USS Narragansett went to see Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan 35th Anniversary. A group of members went to the 7pm showing at the Providence Place Cinemas on September 10th. Captain Knotts, First Officer Anzaldi, and Security Chief Anzaldi were in full uniform representing our ship as only they can.
This month’s meeting of the USS Narragansett was graciously hosted by Lieutenant Junior Grade Brunelle. The meeting began with Captain Knotts congratulating the members of the chapter on their hard work. The Captain reported that the USS Narragansett is leading the Region in recruitment and that our participation in Starfleet Academy is the biggest surge the Academy has seen in months. The Captain also explained the how our chapter works to the new and potential members who were in attendance.
Next month’s meeting will be a senior staff meeting because the Captain would like to see us send a large delegation to the Regional Conference in lieu of a large chapter meeting. Signups to attend the Regional Conference are available on the crew page.
A discussion was had around supporting members who live in other regions. After much time invested we were unable to setup a virtual link for a distant member for this meeting. As we are a meeting chapter, it was unanimously decided that rather than attempting to support virtual attendance of our meetings on a regular basis, it would be better to recommend that members who are not located in our region participate in a correspondence chapter or choose a chapter in their local area.
Lieutenant Commander Anzaldi recognized the members of the crew who have been promoted over the last month and discussed department head’s responsibilities.
Lieutenant Commander Anzaldi asked that Department Heads provide assignments to their crew members. Department heads are also responsible for providing fortnightly reports. He also reminded everyone that there are still Department Head positions available and that Department Heads earn a promotion once they complete the requirements for their position. Further promotions will happen according to the promotion schedule.
The topic of membership dues was raised to help defray the costs of running our website, our annual STARFLEET chapter fee, and other incidentals that come with running the chapter. After some discussion it was agreed that dues would be appropriate. A unanimous vote resulted in the amount for dues being set at $2 per month for all members except Jr. Cadets starting in September. We will revisit the amount of the dues as necessary.
The floor was opened to Department Heads. Lieutenant J. Taylor reminded everyone that department heads get email aliases for our domain name and asked everyone to provide bios for the website. He also asked that crew members who attend away missions provide photos and a report for the website. Lieutenant Junior Grade Gonzales said that he would setup a time to take professional headshots of members for use on the website. Lieutenant Junior Grade Dreyfus took candid photos of the meeting.
The USS Narragansett NCC-75017 celebrated it’s 1st year of full service after it’s shakedown cruise on Stardate 201707.15 with a business meeting followed by a cookout. A good time was had by all, and the new members were memorized by the Captain’s extensive collection of memorabilia.
During the meeting, Captain Knotts introduced several new members to the ship and gave us a rundown of what has been happening with the ship. First Officer Acting Lieutenant Anzaldi went over the rank structure and how new ranks are attained, with a heavy emphasis on STARFLEET Academy (SFA). Members were advised that Officer Training School (OTS) is the minimum necessary class needed to attain higher ranks but that additional classes and participation in ship events will lead to promotions. Several members were recognized for completing classes in SFA.
The Captain and XO shared their vision of what the ship stands for, promoting the dream of Gene Roddenbery and exploring through learning new things and through experiencing new things. To that end, the Captain recommended that anyone with an idea for an away mission should provide a written proposal to be considered outlining the mission and what we would gain from experiencing it as a group. Captain Knotts shared that he wanted to go beyond just seeing a movie together as a group and dining together (which we still should do, but he would like us to do more). He would like to see us visit places nearby and explore and learn together.
It was discussed that there were several opening for Department Heads and that anyone that felt that they were qualified for the position should apply. It was pointed out that SFA has certifications for department head positions and that those would be a good way to show command that you are qualified and ready to take on the responsibility.
The Captain requested that we all take part in the online poll to select the preferred date for our meetings.
After the meeting was concluded we all enjoyed some great food prepared by our Chief of Communications, The Captain and our First Officer.
